Welcome to my site! I am an academic and literary editor with over a decade of experience working with academic journals, contract editing with publishers, and supporting freelance projects. I specialize in translation review and support for writers for whom English is not their native language. Services
The services below act as a starting point for our initial discussion. For costs, I follow the Editorial Freelancers Association's Rate Chart, so you can use the descriptions below with that chart to get an idea of how much your project will cost. For students, I understand the economic situation in which you might find yourself, and I am open to negotiation.
At my own discretion I may charge an hourly rate for a project, particularly if it is short; I am willing to negotiate an hourly rate if you prefer that method to the EFA word-count rate.
Translation Review
My editorial scope in this process examines your work at sentence level, in idiomatic expression, and in word choice. I carefully read through your translation side-by-side with the source text, checking for errors and consistency as well as supporting your choices in style and grammar. Once I return my comments and suggestions to you, we will work together to ensure your translation remains your own while addressing any points of difficulty, ambiguity, or disagreement. My priority for the final product is that your translation will be free of errors while also matching your translational approach.

Language Review - Copyedit
For a language review, I will largely approach the work as a copyedit, correcting grammar and usage, smoothing out your style, and making suggestions to wording, idioms, and sometimes structure at the paragraph level. My focus for a language review is to help your English-language writing sound as natural as possible at an academic, professional level. As part of this service I also check spelling, punctuation usage, and formatting to a style sheet; we may also negotiate the inclusion of citation formatting. All edits are undertaken with the goal of making your writing publishable at the conclusion of the process.
Dissertation Editing
An immense amount of work goes into the production of a dissertation, beyond just the knowledge of your topic and thesis. I can provide support at each step: I might address structure as you form your argument and plan out the body of your thesis, copyedit and perform a language review for completed chapters, proofread and review citation, or format your document for your institution's submission requirements. You might require just one of these services or some combination of them which we can determine in an initial meeting at no charge.

A (brief) Statement on LLMs
In my work with you, I promise not to use LLMs (or AI, if you like). I urge you to avoid their use, including common writing aids such as Grammarly: in academic and literary writing, the improper use of these tools constitutes plagiarism and will often trigger detection that could result in rejection by publishers or academic institutions (even if we recognize that LLM detection tools are far from perfect).
I have a lot of opinions about the use of LLMs in creative and academic work, but they're not relevant to this statement. What is relevant is that I have a policy against editing machine produced texts or those altered by programs like Grammarly. If I receive a manuscript that has been produced by or run through an LLM, I will likely turn down the job.
